Commercials

Published by James under Other

Thanks to my Tivo, I haven’t had to watch nearly as many commercials as I used to. The Super Bowl is another story however. While there were only a couple of decent ones, there’s one that I can’t get out of my head lately. It’s from Old Spice and I love it.

New From Apple: The iDisapointment

Published by James under Other

I haven’t used a piece of Apple hardware since I was a child and the local school had Apple IIe computers. I’ve yet to shell out cash for an iPod, iPhone, or any of their computers. I was holding out some hope that Apple’s tablet would be something that would make me run [...]

A Solar Power Station in Space?

Published by James under Other

In the last few weeks I’ve briefly read over several articles about a possible solar power station being built in space by the Japanese. The proposed 1-gigawatt power station will cost an estimated $21 billion, a huge expense for such little power. The station would only be able to power ~300,000 Japanese homes. [...]

Summer Weather

Published by James under Other

It’s hard to imagine that weather I would expect in the middle of summer has already arrived. 90 degree temperatures with 80+% humidity is something I’d expect to only read about in the south right about now. This is just terrible to live in. You southerners can take back your weather whenever [...]

Iranian Election

Published by James under Other

I don’t follow the news quite as closely I did before 9/11, but I do read the news every day and this Iranian election mess has gone on much longer than I expected it would.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has done a decent job of suppressing the media, but hasn’t been able to quiet everyone. There [...]

Is Twitter Taking Over?

Published by James under Other

I’m not sure if I’m the only one, but I have found myself on Twitter much more than I expected to be over the last few months. I haven’t abandoned my blog, but it does feel like something I could do without.
The biggest issue with Twitter is that you’re limited to under 200 characters. [...]

The TiVo Experiment Is Over

Published by James under Other

It’s been taken care of. I planned on waiting until Monday, but I decided to take care of it all today. The TiVo has been canceled and has been shipped back to Texas. I also canceled my HD service with Charter and got back my old SD cable box. The way [...]

Another TiVo Update

Published by James under Other

Read my previous post if you haven’t read my update on the TiVo experience I’ve had so far.
So after watching and recording CSI and recording another program at the same time, TiVo’s video/audio froze up again and I’m now considering sending the unit back. I just noticed they have a 30 day money back [...]

Computer Weirdness?

Published by James under Other

I don’t know how if most people pay attention to the noises their computer makes when it starts up. I used to because I had problems with either a hard drive or a fan that was going bad, but that was a few years ago and with two relatively new machines going, I feel [...]

Technical Difficulties

Published by James under Other

Well, here in the midwest, Charter or AT&T is dealing with another cut fiber or some other problem and it’s making Internet speeds a little slower than normal. I’m just glad there is an Internet right now. A lot of people have complained, with even a few big threads created on Blizzard’s World [...]
