I haven't seen many sales for the HD DVDs, but I did see some on the actual players (Toshiba's). TigerDirect is selling the Toshiba for about $90 and includes to movies and rebate for several more.

That's exactly what killed the HD DVD format. They were supposed to be lower cost than Blu-Ray, since the production cost was to be more like that of regular DVDs.
Shot themselves in the foot, or is it both feet in this case?... :P

Yeah. And Wal-Mart and Best Buy are phasing out HD-DVD altogether, which means there will be good deals on the HD-DVD movie discs. Hmm...might find a bargain, but somehow I bet the movie studios will have something to say about that. They'd rather see discs destroyed than sold lower than what they want them to sell for.

When I was watching CNN, I saw news about Amazon pushing BluRay in the ticker. I'm not sure why this was announced now that HD DVD is dead,

Told you it'd win :) But, the problem now for Blu-Ray is online download services, particularly services like Xbox Live that offer high-def movies for download. One good thing for high-def is the fact the TVs keep getting cheaper. And I agree with you that people need to wait for the next generation of Blu-Ray.
